P.R. Shukla
During the Seventeenth IAMC Annual Meeting held online last 4-6 November 2024, the Integrated Assessment Modeling Consortium was proud to honour P.R. Shukla (Ahmedabad University) with the IAMC Lifetime Achievement Award
P.R. Shukla has received the Lifetime Achievement Award to recognise his work in the field of Integrated Assessment Modeling. Prof. Shukla has provided long-standing and continuous contributions in the field of IAM community in terms of scientific knowledge, research, and capacity building, especially voicing the perspective of developing countries for more than three decades.
Prof. Shukla’s notable contributions include:
In terms of leadership, he co-chaired Working Group III of IPCC AR6. A distinguished professor at Ahmedabad University, Chair of the Global Center for Environment and Energy, and visiting faculty member for the Imperial College of London, he has contributed to IPCC processes as a lead author, contributing lead author, coordinating lead author for TAR, AR4, and AR5. He has also co-chaired the 2018 Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 °C, and 2019 Special Report on Climate Change and Land. As a researcher, he has actively worked to make these reports to inform and advise policymakers not only at international but also at national, regional, and local levels. In 2021, Stanford University featured him in the World’s Top 2% Global Scientist List in Energy.
He has influenced the policies on energy and climate change in India through his work. His research focuses on developing and using integrated assessment models to investigate deep decarbonization pathways of energy material systems at national level. He has also been actively engaging in AIM activities since its initial conception.
As a faculty/professor, he has mentored more than 40+ PhD students who have subsequently contributed to the IAM community in terms of model development [AIM family India, TIMES-VEDA], scenario and policy analyses at national level. Some of his students have also served as contributing authors and lead authors for the IPCC reports (AR4, AR5, and AR6).
